The collection comprises a transcript of Dr. Charles W. Mayo's speech, "The United Nations and its problems," as read before the general session of the American Library Association during its 73rd Annual Conference, Minneapolis, Minnesota, June 25, 1954. Accompanying this is a letter of acknowledgement from E.B. Stanford, Dated June 29, 1943, and a clipping from the Rochester Post Bulletin giving account of Dr. C.H. Mayo's death.

In 1945, four individuals who had worked on the Manhattan project-John L. Balderston, Jr., Dieter M. Gruen, W.J. McLean, and David B. Wehmeyer-formed a committee and wrote a letter to 154 public figures asking for their opinions about the possibility of the creation of a world government.
